Lynne Lenhardt - Immediate Past President

Lynne Lenhardt is Immediate Past President of the New York State School Boards Association.

She previously served as President, Vice President and the Area 7 Director.

NYSSBA provides advocacy, training and information to school boards in support of their mission to govern the state’s public schools. The NYSSBA board establishes policies to supervise, control and direct the business of the Association.  Lenhardt is a member of the board’s Executive and Operations comittees. She chaired the Executive Committee and the Task Force on Raising the Graduation Rate.

As Area 7 Director Lenhardt represented school districts in Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren and Washington counties. She has also been active in the Federal Relations Network and State Legislative Network since her first years as a school board member, advocating for children at both the federal and state levels.

Lenhardt was elected to the Bethlehem Central Board of Education in 1988 and has served as president and vice president. She has been a member of the Capital Region BOCES Board of Education since 1997 where she served as president and vice president. Since 2005, she has served on the Tech Valley High School Operating Board.

Lenhardt has also served as president of the Capital District School Boards Association and was a member of the Commissioner’s Advisory Council of School Board Members. She chaired the Capital Area School Development Association School Board Institute Steering Committee. She participated in CASDA’s Select Seminars on Leadership, and on Collaborative School Community Leadership Fostering Healthy Development and Lifelong Learning. Lenhardt was formerly a member of the College Council of Empire State College.

Lenhardt received a master’s degree from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy and formerly taught high school social studies. She also served as an adjunct college instructor of mathematics and worked in the New York State Legislature. Presently, she is a substitute teacher and does private math tutoring. She is an active participant in the Delmar Progress Club, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Bethlehem Historical Association, Slingerlands Fire Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees of the Bethlehem Central Community Foundation.

Lenhardt and her husband George live in Delmar. They have two grown children.
