The Board of Directors consists of the Association’s president, first vice president, second vice president, treasurer and the immediate past president; one director from each of NYSSBA’s 13 geographical areas; and a representative of the Conference of Big 5 School Districts. Representatives of the National School Boards Association serve as ex officio members. The board promotes the interest of education throughout the state, determines general policies of the Association, appoints NYSSBA’s executive director and adopts the Association’s annual budget.
Directors are nominated and elected by member school boards in their designated geographic areas. The officers of the Association – the president, first vice president, second vice president and treasurer – are nominated by the Board of Directors, and then elected by delegates to NYSSBA’s Annual Business Meeting.
