NYSSBA’s 89th Annual Convention and Educational Trade Show will be held at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers in Manhattan Oct. 16-19. Online registration is available at http://www.regonline.com/Checkin.asp?EventId=619221.
More than 80 educational seminars – an increase of about 20 over last year – will be offered.
The “cast” of this Broadway-themed event includes:
- Dr. Lorraine Monroe, a New York City educator who will share her techniques for leading excellent schools that focus on student achievement.
- Eight renowned experts who will deliver five in-depth workshops on subjects ranging from “Maintaining Collegial Governing Team Relationships” to “Leading Learning with the Brain in Mind.”
- Jearlyn Steele, a frequent guest on public radio’s Prairie Home Companion, will demonstrate the importance of music in our student’s lives by leading a performance by the Edward R. Murrow High School Chorus.
The Convention will also include NYSSBA’s Annual Business Meeting, in which delegates from member school districts set NYSSBA’s advocacy agenda for the year.
Also, the 2008 recipient of the Everett R. Dyer Distinguished Service Award will be announced.
Attendees will be able to fulfill state requirements by taking a sequence of fiscal oversight courses. Also, all eight courses of the School Board Institute series will be offered.
Other features of the Convention include the Educational Trade Show, with nearly 160 commercial exhibits, museum tours, a student art show and a “town hall meeting” with Commissioner of Education Richard Mills.
