Position Title:
Director of External Special Education

Position Description:
All Directors of Special Education are critical members of an integrated instructional program and compliance team. This position functions as the District’s primary liaison to all external special education-providing institutions and individuals including, but not limited to: private schools, parochial schools, charter schools, BOCES, Agencies, and home schooling parents having the responsibility of educating RCSD students with disabilities. The Director of External Special Education will report directly to the Executive Director of Special Education, and the Chief of Special Education and Student Support Services.

Additionally, the Director of External Special Education is responsible for all CSE-related activities for students with disabilities attending programs out of the District, responding to parent inquiries, and assisting schools with mediations and in the resolution of state complaints. Coordinating Administrators of Special Education assigned to external education report directly to the Director of External Special Education. Additionally, the Director of External Special Education is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of a CSE team, and all CSE and sub-CSEs activities as necessary in external education.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education
  • At least five (5) years of effective special education teaching experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in major areas of special education including instruction and programs, compliance, CSE-related activities, parent communication and engagement, and professional development.
