Attend NYSSBA’s Board Officers Academy and learn how emotional intelligence (EI) skills build positive board behavior, encourage effective decision-making and shape relationships at the board table and within the community. Learn what it takes to effectively navigate board meetings and develop relationships with your superintendent and participate in a mock board meeting.

||Emotional Intelligence for Governance Teams
Emotions are powerful and can be misunderstood. Emotions influence thinking, decision making, relationships and more. Learn how you can become a more emotionally intelligent leader and create an emotionally intelligent team. Explore EI research from the Yale Center and others and hear how a team’s EI success lies in conditions produced when implementing nine (9) group intelligent norms that will build your teams capacity to respond constructively to challenges, collaborate on problem solving and build a positive team culture for greater effectiveness.

Congratulations, you’ve been elected board president. Understand your role and how to carry out your responsibilities and learn how to effectively navigate board meetings, manage good decision making, build relations with your superintendent and represent the community well. During this workshop you will discover best practices to help you fulfill these and other duties.

||“Do’s & Don’ts” of Board Governance –The Mock Board Meeting
Laugh, cringe and relate to the scenarios enacted in a “mock meeting.” Reflect on how one or more of these examples can unfold into situations around your board table. Share your wisdom and experiences, and hear from fellow board members during a candid discussion of real issues and strategies for managing similar circumstances.

All NYSSBA member school boards are eligible for recognition in this program. Credit will accrue for listed events and activities for individuals serving on a NYSSBA member board.
Board members will earn 20 points for attending the NYSSBA Summit.
