Brian LaTourette is the Area 8 Director of the New York State School Boards Association. As Area 8 Director, LaTourette represents Delaware, Fulton, Montgomery, Otsego and Schoharie counties.
NYSSBA provides advocacy, information and training to school boards in support of their mission to govern the state's public schools. The NYSSBA board establishes policies to supervise, control and direct the business of the Association.
LaTourette is president of the Downsville Board of Education, where he has served for 17 years. He has also been vice president of the board. He serves on the board’s Audit Committee, and Building and Grounds Committee. He formerly served on the Accountability, Budget and Finance, Board Operations and Transportation committees.
LaTourette is a member of NYSSBA’s State Legislative Network and Federal Relations Network, advocating for the Association’s legislative priorities.
LaTourette is an active member of the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad. He is a former football coach in the Walton Central School District and has been involved with the Delaware County 4-H program. He is a trustee for the Colchester Community United Methodist Church where he has been a member for five years. He serves on the DCMO CTE advisory committee and also serves on the Cooperstown Junior Livestock Show Committee.
LaTourette is the program operations coordinator for the Watershed Agriculture Council (WAC) of the New York City Watersheds.
A lifelong resident of Delaware County, LaTourette grew up on a dairy farm in Trout Creek, NY and graduated from the Walton Central School District. He attended college at SUNY Delhi where he received an associate’s degree in business. He resides in Downsville with his wife Christie, their two children and three stepchildren, and two granddaughters.
