Joan Reeves, a member of the Baldwinsville Board  of Education and the Onondaga Cortland Madison (OCM) BOCES Board, received the Everett R. Dyer Award for Distinguished School Board Service at NYSSBA’s 96th Annual Convention and Education Expo in New York City.

Reeves has served on the Baldwinsville board for more than three decades and on the OCM BOCES board since 2007. Since joining the Baldwinsville board in 1981, she has served as vice president for 13 years and as president for 6 years. She has been a member of 14 board committees in Baldwinsville, including ones focused on long range planning, facilities, policy, insurance, transportation, audit, sustainability, legislation and negotiations. Reeves also serves on the boards of directors of the Central New York School Boards Association and the Onondaga Madison School Boards Association.

She has been active in lobbying for financial aid for school districts as well as for fiscal equity in New York State. In nominating her for the Dyer award, the Baldwinsville board passed a resolution that stated: “Joan’s extensive participation on committees of boards of education and her years of service as an officer of the Baldwinsville Central School District Board of Education demonstrate her commitment to preserving and strengthening the quality of a public education as well as her dedication to being fiscally responsible to the community. She goes above and beyond the basic duties of serving on boards of education. She values every opportunity to grow professionally by attending conferences and workshops related to the varied issues affecting public education and school districts.”

She is a graduate of the Baldwinsville Central School District. In addition to school board service, Reeves is active with other organizations in her community.

She attended SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Oswego, majoring in political science, and worked at two farms – Reeves Farms and Plainville Farms – where she had roles in management, purchasing, regulatory compliance and product development.
