Advocacy Alert: 2017 Legislative Wrap Up
June 27, 2017
Earlier today, the NYSSBA Governmental Relations team conducted a webinar discussing the end of the 2017 legislative session and how your school district could be impacted.
We discussed what bills state lawmakers passed, what bills they did not, and what business was left unfinished.
If you were unable to view the webinar live, you can watch video or view the power point at the links below:
This week, NYSSBA sent two letters to New York's Congressional delegation. The first letter discusses the impact of the proposed changes to Medicaid on school districts. The second letter provides an initial response to the administration's 2018 budget request, as well as some initial federal budget priorities. Both letters can be viewed below.
Changes in Medicaid are under discussion as a part of the Senate's heath care reform bill now. Please consider contacting your representatives and telling them to preserve Medicaid funding in schools. Take Action Now
Comments on Draft ESSA Plan
NYSSBA recently submitted comments on the State's draft ESSA plan. The comment period, which overlapped with a series of hearings on the draft plan, recently closed. The Board of Regents will consider the feedback received at the July meeting of the Board.
NYSSBA's Governmental Relations team will continue to update you on these and other issues.
