Membership

Membership in the Association is open to all public school boards and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES) in the state. These members are entrusted with one of the most important responsibilities that can be assigned any citizen: helping to plan the education of children. Although they sit on a local board of education, school board members are elected local officials, guiding a statewide school system that expends over $57 billion, employs nearly 520,000 people and serves more than 2.6 million children. Board members generally receive no pay, only the satisfaction that comes from rendering an indispensable public service.
