In these perilous times for public education, school board members need to use every available resource to influence public policy for the benefit of New York State's students. NYSSBA can help make you effective at this vital aspect of school board service by connecting you with the online resources to lobby your state legislators and members of Congress from your computer. You can send your representatives an email, check the current status of legislation and find out what is happening in the Legislature. NYSSBA also provides you with up-to-the-minute news on issues critical to public education, so be sure to check back often for the latest developments in education on the state and federal fronts.

Appointed delegates from member school districts convene to address, debate and deliberate vital issues facing public education in New York State.  Help shape the 2014 advocacy agenda while providing direction to one of the state’s most influential educational organizations.

Resolutions Resolution Kit

The Resolutions kit is designed to guide you through the resolutions process in the event that your district wishes to submit a resolution for consideration at NYSSBA’s 2013 Annual Business Meeting in Rochester.  It provides you timelines, structure and suggestions for the appropriate focus of resolutions.  Thank you for participating in this important advocacy effort.

All resolutions received by the Thursday, August 1, 2013 deadline will be compiled in the 2013 Proposed Bylaw Amendments and Resolutions booklet, which will be distributed electronically to all member boards.

Mandate Cost Analysis Spreadsheet Template Instructions

Please use the READ Mandate Cost Analysis template  to join school districts that are gathering data on the cost of mandates affecting schools in New York State.

Please e-mail the completed draft to Karen Zevin president of the Croton-Harmon school board, at karenzevin@croton-harmonschools.org.

The spreadsheet was developed by READ - Regional Educational Advocacy Districts. Members are nine school districts in Westchester County - Brewster, Chappaqua, Garrison, Hendrick Hudson, White Plains, Briarcliff, Croton-Harmon, Haldane and Lakeland.
