Position Title:
Director, School Quality

Position Description:
The Quality Review (QR) is a process that evaluates how well schools are organized to support student learning and teacher practice. It was developed to assist New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) schools in raising student achievement by looking behind a school’s performance statistics to ensure that the school sis engaged in effective methods of accelerating student learning.

The QR is a two-day school visit during which reviewers talk with parents, students, teachers, and school leaders, visit classrooms, and use the Quality Review Rubric to evaluate how well the school is organized to support student achievement.

After the school visit, the school receives a Quality Review Report that is also published on its NYCDOE webpage. The Quality Review Report rates 10 indicators of the Quality Review Rubric and includes narrative information on six indicators. The report provides the school community with evidence-based information about the school's development and serves as a source of feedback for school leaders to improve the school's support for students.

Directors of School Quality will be responsible for conducting Quality Reviews, as well as leading the design and facilitation of professional learning for school leaders. Directors are expected to be masters of utilizing the QR Rubric in order to fairly and equitably assess and evaluate school practices.

Onondaga Nation School

Onondaga Nation School educates approximate 150 students in grades Pre-K-8. There are 38 instructional staff, a Home-School Liaison, Social Worker and School Psychologist.

The school began as the Onondaga Indian School circa 1850. In an agreement with New York State, the school started in a one-room schoolhouse, then relocated in 1910 and eventually in the current brick structure in 1940. In 1954, the LaFayette School District entered into a contract with New York State to continue the students’ education by having them attend the LaFayette Junior/Senior High School.

One of only three such schools in New York State, the Onondaga Nation School is a source of great pride for the LaFayette Central School District and, as such, requires a school leader with exceptional skills and attributes.

  • Three or more years of teaching experience and three or more years of administrative experience
