NYSSBA's School Board U provides what you need to meet the ever-changing challenges of board governance and fiscal accountability.

School Board U is organized around four curricula strands which address the facets of what an effective school board member should know:
Governance and Leadership, Fiscal Management, Student Achievement, District Operations

Whether you are a newly elected or seasoned board member, our training programs are designed to enhance your knowledge and leadership skills.

Getting Started:

The Core Curriculum - is a carefully designed selection of course offerings that provide the essential concepts, and a solid foundation for school board governance. This core curriculum is designed especially for new board members but anyone can take them to build upon their foundational understanding.

New members are encouraged to follow the core curriculum of courses within their first year of service.

Custom Improvement Program

An expert NYSSBA facilitator designs the workshop to meet the needs of your board-superintendent team. NYSSBA's facilitator comes to your district on a set day and time that is convenient for you.

Recognition Program
Read about the NYSSBA Recognition program. We acknowledge the extensive time and effort of school board members who continually strive to expand their knowledge and skills for better board governance. NYSSBA members earn credits for participating in School Board U training opportunities, including the Annual Convention, regional workshops and webinars. Be recognized by your NYSSBA Area Director and your fellow school board members.
