Allocation unknown for $2.5B stimulus

The federal stimulus package will provide New York schools with more than $2.5 billion over the next two years to offset Gov. David Paterson’s proposed spending reductions.
But just how much of the Washin-gton-provided money will flow to each school district was uncertain as On Board went to press 10 days after President Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act into law on President’s Day. The uncertainty may last for weeks.

The Regents exam for English Language Arts has two parts that are always administered on different days. On Jan. 28, a snow day prevented many high schools from administering Part II of the exam, which must be passed for a student to earn a Regents diploma. Other schools, including private schools, gave the test.

Required fiscal oversight classes offered

School board members are required by state law to complete six hours of training on fiscal oversight from a provider approved by the State Education Department. Newly elected or re-elected school board members must complete their training within one year of being elected or re-elected, unless they have previously completed this training.
