*Course fee includes resource materials, continental breakfast and a non-refundable $35 administrative fee. Cancellations will not be refunded after the pre-registration/cancellation deadline, which is one week prior to the event. No-shows will be billed at the full registration fee.




Attend this interactive workshop to:

  • Understand your role in the budget development process and the legal requirements
  • Learn how to align the budget with your school district’s priorities and goals
  • Learn how to assess the fiscal health of your district
  • Realize the implications of the tax levy cap, tax base, state aid and other factors on the budget
  • Hear best practices in communicating the budget to the public
  • Gain insights into promoting student achievement with limited resources

You will also understand how the long range planning of your district’s fiscal health today will affect what happens tomorrow.

Your vital role and responsibility in overseeing your school district's budget while maintaining student achievement will be brought to life through this interactive program. The discussion will include the assessment of the budget and how it aligns to your school district’s goals, from staffing needs and educational programming to determining your district’s fiscal health. You will walk away with an understanding of the implications of the tax cap, state aid and other factors. Plus you will learn to effectively monitor the budget throughout the year and to communicate budget information to the public.

Recognition Program:
All NYSSBA member school boards are eligible for recognition in this program. Credit will accrue for listed events and activities for individuals serving on a NYSSBA member board.
Board members will earn 10 points for each day in NYSSBA's School Board U Program
