Position Title:
Superintendent of Schools

Position Description:
The Akron Central School District lies in the northeast corner of Erie County, about 40 miles east of Buffalo, New York and 55 miles west of Rochester, New York. The district serves approximately 1400 students in Grades K -12 from the towns of Akron and Newstead, including 195 Native Americans, most of whom reside on the Tonawanda Reservation. The school complex, comprised of the elementary school, the middle school and the high school, is located in the Village of Akron. The district is among the top 20% of school districts in New York State.

Qualifications:
Central office and building level administrative experience is preferred but all candidates with extensive, relevant administrative experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates should study the desired characteristics of the new superintendent as well as the challenges that lie ahead for the new superintendent. A salary up to $170,000 and a flexible benefit package will be offered to the successful candidate. The start date for the new Superintendent of Schools is July 1, 2019. Qualifications:
A doctoral degree is preferred. New York State School District Leader or School District Administrator certification is required, though enrollment in a NYSED-recognized certification program is acceptable. Residency within 15 miles of New Rochelle in New York or Connecticut is required.

Salary Range:
Minimum salary of $270,000 depending upon years of experience

Position Description:
The District Clerk is appointed annually at the reorganizational meeting (the first Board meeting every July). The position is an exempt Civil Service position. Rockland County (NY) residency is not required.

* Work year: 12 months per year
* Work hours: 35+ hours per week, evening hours required

Qualifications:
Qualifications: Good knowledge of educational law and statutes; ability to maintain highly accurate files and records; excellent interpersonal skills; powerful organizational skills and attention to detail; capacity to handle complex, confidential clerical work. Responsibilities Include:

  • Attend and take minutes of all meetings of the Board of Education which occur in the evening twice per month;
  • Serve as primary contact for the Board to school administration and community;
  • Prepare a register of qualified voters for all School District elections;
  • Prepare legal notices for publication and postings of Board meetings;
  • Maintain District records including requests for information from the public;
  • Prepare legal filings;
  • Organize annual District Budget/Trustee vote;
  • Manage polling sites, hire and train poll workers;
  • Work closely with Board president, District counsel and Superintendent;
  • Prepare Board meeting agendas and publish Board meeting minutes;
  • Occasionally give a presentation at a Board meeting.

Salary Range:
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 per year, based on experience.
