You won’t want to miss this full-day interactive workshop. You’ll get a comprehensive review of the Open Meetings Law, brush up on parliamentary procedures and public hearing requirements, and discuss the hot topics district clerks face.

The district clerk is critical in ensuring legally compliant board meetings and public hearings, as well as supporting the smooth functioning of the board of education.  This workshop is designed to enhance your knowledge of the key role you play. You’ll get the tools you need to successfully fulfill your responsibilities.

Improve your understanding of the Open Meetings Law while learning about the latest decisions and other developments regarding open meetings, entering into executive session, and the requirements for posting materials to be discussed at meetings.  Come prepared with your questions for a lively Q and A!

Meeting Mechanics - The Basics of Parliamentary Procedure
Most school board policies require that board meetings be run in conformity with Robert’s Rules of Order.  Learn the basics of these important operating rules and get familiar with the procedures. You’ll gain confidence in your role as a resource to your board and administrative staff and, most importantly, enable you to ensure that your board meetings are run properly.

Public Hearings - Review of Requirements and Policies
Public hearings are required by either state law or regulation in a number of instances, such as the district budget process and prior to adoption of the district code of conduct and school safety plans.  Learn more about the proper procedures for notification and discuss best practices with your colleagues.
