New York State law requires state-mandated training for newly elected school board members within their first year of office. Newly elected school board members are required to take six hours of fiscal oversight training and governance skills training.
NYSSBA’s New School Board Member Academy offers all mandated fiscal and governance training through workshops in a two day program offered in regional locations around the state. By participating in NYSSBA’s core training curriculum, new school board members sharpen their governance and fiscal skills and meet their mandated requirements while becoming familiar with board roles and responsibilities, policies and procedures, legal rights, fiscal duties, and more!
