Marie MacKay, president of the Lancaster Central School District Board of Education, has been honored as School Board Member of the Week as part of an eight-week campaign celebrating school board service by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).

The campaign – entitled “Do You Know Who I Am?” – tells the story of individual school board members such as MacKay and the contributions they make in their communities. The campaign runs through March 21.

MacKay has been on the Lancaster Central School District Board of Education for 12 years, three as president and four as vice president.   She is a graduate of Onondaga Community College, majoring in special education.

MacKay is most proud of the LEAP program (Lancaster Evening Alternative Program) offered in the school district.  The program is for young people who are struggling or at risk of not completing their education.  "It thrills me to present diplomas to these graduating students and to see the gratification on the part of their parents who have worked so hard to get them to this point," she said.
