2016 NYSSBA Resolution Kit

May 10, 2016

Dear NYSSBA Member:

Enclosed you will find NYSSBA’s 2016 Resolution Kit. This kit includes key dates and other important information about the resolutions process.

The resolution process is an important one, by which NYSSBA members have the opportunity to set the positions and beliefs of the Association. Your participation provides guidance to the NYSSBA Governmental Relations team.

Included in the kit are the results of the 2016 Resolutions Survey.

The survey is the first step in preparing the Annual Business Meeting agenda. The survey sets forth a series of questions asking boards if they believe the association should support, oppose or remain neutral on a variety timely and relevant topics affecting public education. A total of 660 Board members from around the state responded.

We are sharing the results with the full membership with the hope that you will review and discuss the results of the survey. Please consider submitting resolutions of importance to your board, including those sample resolutions emanating from the survey as well as resolutions on topics not addressed by the survey.

Please note, all proposed resolutions and bylaw amendments must be received at NYSSBA headquarters no later than the close of business August 1, 2016.

If you have any questions about the resolutions process or the survey you should also feel free to reach out to NYSSBA staff at any time. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact NYSSBA Governmental Relations staff via Penny Martiniano at penny.martiniano@nyssba.org or 518-783-0200. You should also feel free to reach out to me, your area resolutions committee representative or your NYSSBA Area Director.

Members have until the close of business on Monday August 1, 2016 to submit resolutions.

Julie M. Marlette
Director of Governmental Relations and Staff Liaison to the Resolutions Committee
