ECB Produces Resource Guide on Restorative Justice
The New York State Educational Conference Board (ECB) - of which NYSSBA is a member - recently produced a resource guide and video on the issue of restorative justice. ECB member groups spent months working on these materials, with the goal of informing and shaping the discussion around restorative justice practices and approaches, headed into the 2020 legislative session. Please feel free to share throughout your school community. Both the resource guide and video can be viewed by clicking the following link:
Governor Signs Local Insurance Reserve Fund Bills
Late last week, Governor Cuomo signed into law four bills giving multiple school districts the authority to establish insurance reserve funds to their self-insured health plans. The newly authorized districts include Bedford, Grand Island, Ithaca and Kenmore-Tonawanda. Legislation for four additional districts was passed by both the Senate and Assembly this year, but they have yet to be delivered to the Governor.
NYSSBA worked closely with member districts on this issue and are pleased to see them signed into law. We will continue supporting the districts whose bills are still pending.
NYSSBA's Governmental Relations team will continue to report on these and other issues. For more information, visit our Key Issues Page
