Federal Take Action
Congress is rushing to reach consensus on funding by October 1st in order to avoid a government shutdown. While there is talk of a continuing resolution that would leave education funding flat through most of November, broader discussions around funding for public education are ongoing. The House Appropriations Committee advanced a bill that proposes to cut Title I funding by more than $5 billion (27 percent). While the details of the various proposals differ, the cuts to K-12 federal funding mirror what the Trump administration proposed in June. Meanwhile, the Senate has proposed leaving federal funding for schools relatively flat. We encourage you to reach out to your member(s) of Congress to urge them to support the Senate’s appropriation bill. NSBA has created a Take Action campaign that allows you to easily send a pre-written, yet editable, email to your representative. Click here to take action.
