More than 70 NYSSBA members joined Governmental Relations staff for NSBA’s annual advocacy conference and Hill Day in our nation’s capital in late January. Meetings were held with the entire New York Congressional Delegation as well as with staff of Senators Schumer and Gillibrand. NYSSBA Lobby Day
A big thank you to nearly 100 NYSSBA members and school leaders that made the trip to Albany for our Annual Lobby Day! Members met with legislators representing all regions of the state in both houses. We had many legislators and their staff attend our Coffee Meet and Greet. If you were unable to attend, we encourage you to reach out to your legislators offices. Please share our 2026 State Budget Priorities and our 2026-27 Executive Budget Analysis. Additionally, we have created an updated memo related to the ZEB mandate. The memo can be found here. All of this information was included in packets that were shared with legislators during lobby day.

Assembly Elects new Minority Leader
On Tuesday, the Assembly Republicans elected Ed Ra as their new Minority Leader. Representing the 19th Assembly District, he was most recently Republican leader on the Ways and Means Committee and was previously Republican leader on the Assembly Education Committee. Members of our Governmental Relations team joined school board members to meet with the Assemblyman and his staff during lobby day, and our school board members have the honor of being his first constituent meeting in his new role. We look forward to continuing our work with Assemblyman Ra.
