School board members from around the state will gather July 28 and 29 at the Crowne Plaza Albany – Desmond Hotel for the New York State School Boards Association’s 2023 Leadership in Education Event.
The summer training and enrichment opportunity will feature sessions focused on trending topics of interest for school board members, including staff retention, learning gaps, opioid abuse prevention, artificial intelligence, emotional resilience, student well-being and educator well-being.
"Our LEE gathering offers school board members a well-paced mid-summer program of meaningful professional development and a chance to learn with other board members from around New York," said NYSSBA Executive Director Robert S. Schneider.
"School board members will hear from respected experts and consider ways the latest research and understanding of evolving issues can fuel effective leadership and innovation in their home districts," said Schneider.
The event will open with a Friday breakfast forum featuring state Education Commissioner Betty Rosa and several members of the State Education Department’s leadership staff who will offer their perspectives on challenges and opportunities within New York’s educational environment.
A second general session in the early afternoon will bring together a panel of seasoned experts to discuss successful social-emotional health strategies for students. General sessions on Saturday will feature a panel conversation on school discipline reform and a closing luncheon presentation by Superintendent Michael Hynes of Port Washington, who will talk about building a culture of positivity.
