School leaders prep for upcoming school year

Top education practitioners and experts bring new leadership ideas and suggestions to school officials

FOR RELEASE: July 17, 2024

It may be mid-summer, but school leaders are already thinking about September.

School board members and superintendents from across the state will convene at NYSSBA’s 3rd annual Leadership in Education event on July 19 and 20 in Albany to discuss best practices when it comes to hot topics in education such as A.I. in the classroom, teacher shortages, and chronic absenteeism.

They’ll also hear the latest from the State Education Department on proposed new graduation requirements and literacy initiatives.

"Our Leadership in Education event brings board members in from around the state to hear from their colleagues and expert practitioners on some of the greater challenges facing educators today," said Robert Schneider, NYSSBA Executive Director.

Superintendents, board presidents, school administrators, and BOCES professionals, are among some of the presenters at this year’s summer event.

The event also features some notable national education leaders including Bill Daggett, founder and executive chairman of Successful Practices Network, who will discuss the skills and knowledge students will need in the future.

The training will also feature a student panel discussion about ways youth can feel empowered to participate in educational decision-making.

To close the event, Dr. Deborah L. Wortham, retired superintendent and CEO of Wortham Educational Enterprises, LLC, will discuss best practices for fostering a school district environment conducive to leading and learning.

The 2-day event (July 19 and 20) will be held at the Crowne Plaza Albany – The Desmond Hotel.
