The report "In Their Own Words," issued by the New York State School Boards Association, features interviews with school board members on such topics as what they consider to be socially responsible service, and how they find their work meaningful and rewarding. They also discuss the role of school boards in raising student achievement.
The report is part of NYSSBA's eight-week campaign celebrating school service, which runs through March 21.

Brenda Crump, a member of the Mount Vernon Board of Education, is being featured in a video for a statewide eight-week campaign celebrating school board service by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).
The campaign – entitled “Do You Know Who I Am?” – will tell the story of individual school board members like Crump and the contributions they make in their communities. The campaign runs through March 21.
Crump has been on the Mount Vernon board since 2012. In addition to her school board service, she is a child and family advocate, which involves helping parents learn their legal rights in the child care, foster care and criminal justice systems.
