Deborah Schwarting, a member of the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES board, has been honored as School Board Member of the Week, as part of an eight-week campaign celebrating school board service by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).
The campaign – entitled “Do You Know Who I Am?” – tells the story of individual school board members such as Schwarting and the contributions they make in their communities. The campaign runs through March 21.
Schwarting has been on the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES board since 2009. Prior to that, she served on the Weedsport Board of Education for 20 years (four times as president).
Schwarting is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and Auburn Community College.
According to Schwarting, the best part of serving on a school board "is seeing students reach their potential; taking pride in their accomplishments."
