Executive Releases 30 Day Budget Amendments

The 30 day amendments to the 2015 Executive Budget have been released and once again the Executive has provided us with little information. The amendments as put forth make technical changes to proposed language and do not provide any real information regarding a state aid package. There is again no state aid distribution language nor aid runs. Therefore, school districts are still left in the dark about how to develop their own budgets.

The point reinforced is that if the legislature fails to adopt the governor's proposed reforms, districts may receive no more aid than they did in 2014-15. This means at best a 0% increase, at worst a reduction.

To convey the seriousness of this issue we encourage you to do the following:

  • Pass a Local Resolution- some districts have done so already- and share it with NYSSBA, the Governor, and other elected officials.
  • Call or meet with your legislators in their district office.
  • Register for the Capital Conference March 15-16- join your colleagues from around the state and make sure your voice is heard.
  • Tell NYSSBA about you’re doing- so we can incorporate your actions into ours on your behalf.
