This week, the NYSSBA Governmental Relations team, in partnership with the NSBA Director of Federal Legislation Deborah Rigsby, conducted a webinar briefing on key issues under consideration by the 114th Congress. Highlights of the discussion include:
- Elementary and Secondary Education Act Reauthorization
- Federal Funding
- Local Governance and Authority
- School Nutrition and the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act

Meet with your Congressional representative
August District Work Period has commenced and the NYSSBA Governmental Relations team will be traveling around the state with our Board of Directors this month to meet with members of Congress and their staff in order to ensure that our message is heard.
Members of Congress are back in their districts until September 7th and this time is a great opportunity for your boards to meet locally with your representatives to share your positions on the issues of the day, including reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and federal funding.
We encourage school board members to meet with your representatives during the District Work Period.
