Advocacy Alert - SED Releases Guidance on State Aid for Lead Testing and Remediation

Earlier this week, the State Education Department released guidance regarding the reporting requirements and aid available to reimburse districts for some of the costs associated with testing for lead in water and remediation if lead contamination is discovered.

Deadline to Comment on State Learning Standards Extended
The State Education Department has extended the deadline to comment on the new draft New York State Learning Standards. Originally slated to close on November 4th, the department has announced that due to the continued interest, they will continue to extend the comment period until November 14th.

Commissioner Elia forms Principal Preparation Advisory Council
The Commissioner has created an advisory council to gather information about programs to prepare school building leaders and to identify if improvements are possible. To support this work the following online survey was developed to help inform the Advisory Team. The survey includes 11 questions and takes 5 minutes to complete. The survey will be open until Tuesday, November 1, 2016 and can be viewed below.
