Senate to Hold Meetings on Foundation Aid

The Senate Majority has announced that the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Committee on Budget and Revenues will hold a series of roundtables and a public hearing on Foundation Aid. Specifically, these events are to hear from stakeholders regarding the factors used to calculate and distribute Foundation Aid. Senator Shelley Mayer, Chair of the Senate Education Committee, will lead these hearings in partnership with Senator Brian Benjamin, Chair of the Senate Committee on Budget and Revenues.

Participation in the roundtables will be by invitation only.  There will be an audience area at  each roundtable in which interested individuals who are not invited to participate can observe the deliberations.  Anyone who wishes to submit written testimony is encouraged to do so by email to asciutto@nysenate.gov.   The roundtables will take place on the following dates in locations noted below: 

  • Hudson Valley - October 16, Yonkers Riverfront Library, One Larkin Plaza, Community Room AB, Yonkers, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • Western New York - October 18, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, 665 Elm St, Zebro Family Conference Room, Buffalo, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • Central New York - October 29, Syracuse Center of Excellence, 727 E. Washington St, Room 203, Syracuse, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
  • Long Island - November 13, Seaford Middle School, 3940 Sunset Ave, Seaford, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • New York City - November 19, Bayside High School, 3224 Corporal Kennedy St, Bayside, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Following the roundtables, there will be a public hearing in New York City - December 3, at 250 Broadway, 19th Floor, Manhattan, at 10:00 am. Participation at the public hearing in New York City is open to the public.

NYSSBA will be monitoring the roundtables and participating in the hearing in December, and will keep members up to date on the progress. Senator Mayer's press release can be accessed at the link below.


Governor Cuomo Holding "Red Flag" Implementation Conferences

Last week, Governor Cuomo held a conference on Long Island to address questions from the field regarding the implementation of a new law allowing for the issuance of emergency risk protection orders (ERPO), known as the "red flag" law. Additional events will be held in other parts of the state later this fall, but at this time, dates and locations are not available. As soon as those events are scheduled, NYSSBA will share that information.
