Advocacy Update: 2019 Business Meeting Results

October 29, 2019

Delegates at the 2019 Annual Business Meeting engaged in significant debate on a number of issues. This year, the delegates were presented twenty- six resolutions and one bylaw amendment. Of those, 21 resolutions and one bylaw amendment nineteen were adopted; and one resolutions was tabled for consideration next year. In addition the delegates elected NYSSBA officers for 2020.

These positions will remain in effect for five years, unless they are rescinded or achieved sooner. As a result, the NYSSBA Governmental Relations team will work toward advancing those proposals that would require legislative change to be implemented.

A full list of the adopted position statements can be found below. NYSSBA's complete list of 2019 Position Statements will be distributed in the future.

On a personal note, this will be the final Advocacy Update you receive from me, as today is my last day as NYSSBA's Director of Governmental Relations. Future communications will come from my friend and colleague Brian Fessler, who will take over as the interim Director, effective tomorrow.

It has been an honor and a privilege to represent you for the last six years, and will miss both the people and the work tremendously. Thanks to all of you for an amazing experience.

Julie M. Marlette
