Advocacy Update: 2020 NYSSBA Resolution Kit

April 17, 2020

Dear NYSSBA Member:

Below you will find a link to NYSSBA's 2020 Resolution Kit. This kit includes key dates and other important information about NYSSBA's resolutions process.

The resolution process is an important one, by which NYSSBA members have the opportunity to set the positions and beliefs of the Association. Your participation provides guidance to NYSSBA and direction to the Governmental Relations team.

Included in the kit are the results of the 2020 Resolutions Survey, which was distributed March 2, 2020.  The survey is the first step in preparing the Resolution and Bylaw Amendment process in preparation for the Annual Business Meeting this fall. The survey sets forth a series of questions asking members if they believe the association should support, oppose or remain neutral on a variety timely and relevant topics affecting public education. A total of 292 member boards and BOCES from around the state responded.

This year there has been an update to the submission process for Proposed Resolutions and Bylaw Amendments. On page 7 of the Resolution Kit, you will find detailed information on the new procedure.  In order to streamline the submission process, we have created an electronic Proposed Resolution and Bylaw Amendment Submission Form.  The person submitting the form should fill it out, save it and email it directly to Danielle Grasso at danielle.grasso@nyssba.org.  There is a link within the Resolution Kit to the form and it can also be found here:

Please note, all proposed resolutions and bylaw amendments must be received no later than 5pm on Friday, July 17, 2020.

Should you need any assistance before your board submits a Proposed Resolution or Bylaw Amendment, NYSSBA Governmental Relations staff is here to help. Please reach out to Danielle Grasso directly via email at danielle.grasso@nyssba.org or phone at 518-783-3734 and she will match you with staff to assist with your specific topic area.  You should also feel free to reach out to me, your area resolutions committee representative or your NYSSBA Area Director.

Sincerely,

Brian C. Fessler
Director of Governmental Relations and Staff Liaison to the Resolutions Committee
