Advocacy Update: July 30, 2020

NYSSBA's summer Congressional Meetings have gone virtual.  We would like to thank all of our advocacy liaisons for joining in this effort!  This week we had the opportunity to speak directly with Senator Chuck Schumer.  During the meeting, he encouraged us to ask our members to reach out to their Congressional Representatives and ask them to get the job done.

We are calling upon all of our members to Take Action.  When we did this in April, we had over 2,250 participants.  That accounted for over 6,000 letters being sent to Representatives from all across the state.  As we get closer to reopening decisions, we need our Federal Legislators to know that their assistance is vital in order to adequately meet the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of our students, remotely or in-person, now and in the coming school year.

We have created a letter in which you are able to add in personal stories or issues from your districts.  These letters will be sent to your representative(s).

Please take a moment to read our meeting talking points and priority memos.

We thank you for taking the time to join in this effort and encourage you to share this letter with your community members.

NYSSBA's Governmental Relations team will continue to report on these and other issues.  For more information, visit our Key Issues Page.
