Charmise P. Desiré is the Area 11 Director of the New York State School Boards Association, representing 56 school districts across Nassau County.

NYSSBA provides advocacy, training and information to school boards in support of their mission to govern the state's public schools. The NYSSBA board establishes policies to supervise, control, and direct the business of the Association.

Desiré previously served as a member of the Resolutions Committee of NYSSBA. Most recently, she served as the chairperson of the Resolutions Committee working closely with the NYSSBA’s Governmental Relations team.

Desiré has served on the Uniondale Board of Education since July 2018, including serving as Board President during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years. She has served in various capacities including on the District Interview Committee, High School Character Education Committee, District Technology Committee, and District Pupil Capacity Focus Group. She has been a member of the Uniondale Parent-Teachers Association and served as a Computer Instructor for the Uniondale Adult Education Program. She is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Nassau-Suffolk Boards Association and previously served this association as a member of the Nassau County Executive Committee.

Desiré is a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, an advocacy organization for Black women and girls, and A Better You Foundation, Inc. which provides leadership development to emerging community leaders and youth leadership scholarships. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Public Relations Professionals of Long Island and the founding president of the Uniondale HS Football Parent Booster Club. She is a graduate of the Parent Leadership Institute of Long Island, in association with the Childcare Council of Nassau County.

Desiré holds an MBA and a master’s degree in public relations from Hofstra University and a bachelor's degree in information science and policy from the State University of New York at Albany.

Desiré is an ordained elder in her church, Kingdom Family Ministry Cathedral. She and her husband are honored to be parents of two adult sons, both graduates of the Uniondale Union Free School District.
