David Lowrey - Area 1 Director
David Lowrey is Area 1 Director of the New York State School Boards Association. As Area 1 Director, he represents school boards in Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming counties.
NYSSBA provides advocacy, training and information to school boards in support of their mission to govern the state's public schools. The NYSSBA board establishes policies to supervise, control and direct the business of the Association.
David was first elected to the Iroquois Central School board in 1987, where he had graduated from in 1978. He served on the Iroquois Board of Education for 20 years, serving as both President and Vice-President for several years. Dave currently serves on the Erie 2 CC BOCES Board of Education where he has been serving since 2011.
He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education/Graphic Design and Master of Science Degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Buffalo State College and a second Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Canisius College.
He taught in the Lockport City School District for over 30 years where he also served as Art Teacher, Mentor Coordinator, Student Teacher Coordinator, Student Based Support Team Coordinator, Department Chair, and the Lockport Education Association president representing 467 teachers, teaching assistants and nurses.
After retiring in 2018 from teaching, Dave became the Executive Director of Erie County Association of School Boards. He had served on the Executive Board, as Treasurer, Vice-President and President of the organization prior to his current role as Executive Director.
In addition to serving on Boards of Education, Dave was active in community organizations, serving as Chair of the Orleans Niagara Teacher Center, Vice President of Tri-Town Soccer, Assistant Commissioner of EMW Soccer, Development Director for the Buffalo Children’s Zoo, Program Director for Children’s Hospital Child Life Specialist Program, St. Vincent DePaul Parish Council, CCD Religious Education Teacher, and as a Eucharistic Minister.
In addition to his public service, Dave has private sector experience, having served as the Director of Model and Agent Relations for the International Model Search in Chicago, Illinois, and as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for a franchise of Burger King with over 50 restaurants.
Dave was awarded the ECASB Diana R. Miller Service to Education Award in 2015, Lifetime Achievement Award for NYS PTA in 1995, and The Western New York NYSUT Regional Award in 2014.
