Nina M. Karbacka - Small City School Districts

Nina Karbacka represents the Small City School Districts on the New York State School Boards Association Board of Directors.

NYSSBA provides advocacy, training and information to school boards in support of their mission to govern the state's public schools. The NYSSBA board establishes policies to supervise, control, and direct the business of the Association.

Nina is a current member of the Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education. She is past president, and currently Vice President, of the Association of NY State Small School Districts. She has served on the NYSSBA DEI and Awards committees.

Her entire career she been an advocate for music and education. Nina has a bachelors and masters in music education from SUNY Fredonia. She taught the orchestral program at Jamestown Public Schools for 41 years where she began the Suzuki Violin Program in the schools. Dr. Suzuki honored her at the National Concert in Tokyo. Nina founded the Chautauqua Youth Symphony, which is now in its 40th season and is President of the board of directors. She also serves on the board of the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, a professional ensemble providing wonderful opportunities for young students.

Nina was honored by City and State Magazine as one of the 100 most powerful educators in the state.

She loves teaching and has a private violin studio. Her hobbies include her garden, crocheting, traveling and reading. Nina lives in Jamestown and has one daughter, Marie who is the Choral Music Director in Falconer Central Schools.
