Awards & Recognition
NYSSBA has multiple awards and recognition programs designed to recognize New York State students, staff and board members for their exemplary service to their school districts and contributions to their local community.
Board Excellence Recognition Program
NYSSBA’s Board Excellence Recognition Program acknowledges the extensive time and effort required of school board members who continually strive to expand their knowledge and skills for better board governance. NYSSBA members earn points for participating in NYSSBA training opportunities, including the Annual Convention and regional workshops, and for taking on board-related roles such as Board President and NYSSBA’s Advocacy Liaison. Awards are granted annually.
Everett R. Dyer Award for Distinguished School Board Service
NYSSBA’s Everett R. Dyer Award for Distinguished School Board Service is presented annually to a current or former school board member, who, in the judgment of the NYSSBA Awards and Recognition Committee, should be recognized for outstanding contributions to public education and children in his or her own school district.
Tomorrow’s Leaders Today Recognition
NYSSBA created the Tomorrow’s Leaders Today recognition program to highlight the student-led, one-time acts of extraordinary leadership and initiative that are independent of the school/district system. These are instances when individual students utilize their time, talents, skills and effort to right a wrong, rise to meet a moment, fill a void in leadership, assist others and/or solve a problem through an act, deed, initiative and/or enterprise/entrepreneurship.
Champions of Change Recognition Program
NYSSBA’s Champions of Change Recognition program highlights the many district and BOCES programs and initiatives that are bringing positive, meaningful change to the students, communities and districts of New York.
Goodwill Recognition Program
NYSSBA’s Goodwill Recognition Program highlights the many one-time, selfless acts of goodwill performed by staff and students in New York school districts, with a focus on causes and acts that make a positive impact on the district culture.
