Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT) Recognition Submission Guidelines
Primary Purpose
NYSSBA created the Tomorrow’s Leaders Today recognition program to highlight the student-led, one-time acts of extraordinary leadership and initiative that are independent of the school/district system.
These are instances when individual students utilize their time, talents, skills and effort to right a wrong, rise to meet a moment, fill a void in leadership, assist others and/or solve a problem through an act, deed, initiative and/or enterprise/entrepreneurship.
Recognition Criteria to Consider
- Must be a student in a NYS public school district that is a NYSSBA member at the time of the act or initiative.
- Must be uncommon acts of leadership and initiative that benefit those in the district/BOCES or larger community and serve as a model for others to emulate.
- Must be acts and initiatives that address specific, emerging needs of the school, community and/or society, showing leadership that inspires other students to do more, reach higher, and to lead by example.
Additional Guidelines
- Will not recognize anything encouraged, funded, or endorsed by a state or nationwide program embedded in a district or community (such as badge projects for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.).
- Excludes acts promoted by, developed for, or modeled by national charities or charitable institutions; or those utilizing curriculum and/or marketing peripherals developed by those organizations or institutions.
- Will only recognize acts/initiatives that are apolitical.
- Any submission under consideration should be a one-time, or time-specific endeavor and show an objectively high level of completion in the year in which it is nominated.
- No restrictions on the number of recognitions a student may receive in any time and/or selection period.
- All nominations must come from the student’s school district/BOCES superintendent or board president, or staff that is designated to nominate on their behalf (board/district clerk, asst. to the superintendent, etc.).
Post-Nomination Communication
Please note that NYSSBA representatives will reach out to the nominator only if the application is incomplete or if there is a technical issue. Nominator should otherwise assume the application is intact and received.
This award is determined by the NYSSBA Awards and Recognition Committee. If the student is to be recognized, NYSSBA will reach out to the nominator as proxy for the student. NYSSBA will not reach out to those not selected by the committee.
If you have any questions, please contact Patrick Longo, NYSSBA Member Relations and Engagement Manager/Liaison to the Awards and Recognition Committee at 518.783.3706.
