Position Description:
The Board of Education of the New Hartford Central School District invites interested, highly-qualified educators to submit applications for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The search process will be conducted over the next several months. The successful candidate should be available to assume the position on or about October 1, 2021.

This is a fully confidential search for all applicants, from receipt of application through appointment to the superintendency. The Board is being assisted in the selection by Patricia N. Kilburn, Ed.D., District Superintendent of the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, who will work with the Board to screen applicants and make recommendations regarding candidates. The Board will make all decisions concerning the selection process, the evaluation of candidates and the final appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and educational background of the successful candidate.

The school district is comprised of five schools - three elementary, one junior high and one senior high school - located on 110 acres of developed sites including two complete athletic fields for all sports and activities, an all-weather track, a competition size swimming pool and smaller teaching pool, and enrollment of approximately 2,564 students.

The District has a staff of approximately 250 teachers, 156 non-instructional staff and 11 administrators. The teaching staff are experienced and highly qualified at all levels. The New Hartford Teacher Resource and Computer Training Center provides support for professional development.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a broad range of experience that encompasses grades K-12 with proven leadership in educational administration. The candidate should be experienced in community relations, have a strong background in curriculum and instruction and school finance and budgeting. The candidate should be a dynamic, visionary leader with outstanding communication, problem solving and planning skills, and must possess or be eligible to obtain New York State Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA). Residency in the New Hartford Central School District is preferred. Salary range commensurate with experience.

Position Description:
The Clarence Central School District, located in northeast Erie County, just outside the city of Buffalo in New York State, is seeking an exceptional educational leader to assume the role of Superintendent of Schools. After nearly 40 years in public education, the last ten as Superintendent in Clarence, Dr. Geoffrey Hicks has announced his retirement, effective July 31, 2021.

The District has approximately 33,000 residents with an enrollment of about 4,200 students. There are six schools in the District, four elementary, one middle and one high school, employing more than 750 dedicated faculty, support staff and administrators. The annual budget for the 2020-21 school year is approximately $85,000,000. Facilities have undergone extensive upgrades and renovations in recent years, including a new athletic complex, making it among the most modern and best equipped in the area.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be:

  • A successful educator with experience in a high expectation school district who minimally possesses teaching and building administrative experiences and whose career path demonstrates longevity. Superintendent experience, while preferred, is not required.
  • A highly effective leader with experience in short and long range planning, with excellent communication skills, who is visible and approachable in the schools and community, and whose work is transparent so that stakeholders are uniform in their knowledge of, and respect for, the District’s work.
  • An educator with an understanding of school finance, with the ability to balance the needs of students with fiscal constraints and the long term effects of the pandemic.
  • A proven educator with creative problem solving skills and the ability to work with a Board of Education to lead the District as it continues to navigate the pandemic and its impact on the academic, social and emotional needs of students and staff.
  • An experienced instructional leader who will embrace the various aspects of diversity, who will work to provide multiple learning opportunities for students and lead sensible reviews, improvements and innovations in curriculum and instruction, building upon the success of the District.
  • A decisive and visionary school leader with the utmost integrity who will work collaboratively with all stakeholders and then formulate courses of action based upon what is in the best of interest of students.
