Position Title:
Assistant Director-Interscholastic Athletics

Position Description:
Responsibility:

  • Help develop & implement systems to assure qualified & certified officials are assigned for all interscholastic contests for participating districts;
  • Assist in maintaining Section-wide athletic databases;
  • Serve as a chairperson and/or liaison to various Section One sub-committees;
  • Assist in the planning and supervision of Section One Championship events;
  • Work collaboratively with participating districts and assist in communicating and implementing changes in policy, procedure and/or regulation.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Certification as School District Administrator required;
  • Possession of Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education;
  • Understanding of Commissioner’s Regulations and NYSPHSAA Eligibility Standards;
  • Ability to utilize technology to further department goals; and
  • Knowledge and/or experience as an Athletic Director preferred.

Salary Range:

Position Description:
The Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Otsego, Delaware, Schoharie, and Greene Counties announces a vacancy in the position of District Superintendent of Schools and Chief Executive Officer. The District Superintendent is a public officer of the State of New York, serving both the State Education Department and the Board of Cooperative Educational Services. In the state role, the District Superintendent supports the implementation of State Education Law, the policies of the State Board of Regents, Commissioner’s regulations, and attends to special assignments at the request of the Commissioner. The District Superintendent also participates in the recruitment and selection of school superintendents as needed. In this state role, the District Superintendent reports to the Commissioner of Education. In the local role, the Chief Executive Officer of the Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES is accountable to a nine-member board of education. As Chief Executive Officer of the Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES, the District Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership to school districts within the supervisory district. In this capacity, the District Superintendent plans, administers, supervises, and evaluates the regional support services and educational programs provided by the BOCES at the request of its 19 component school districts.

Position Title:
Principal

Position Description:
The New York Institute for Special Education (NYISE), located in the Bronx, just north of Manhattan and south of Westchester County is seeking an outstanding educational leader to assume the role of Principal. NYISE offers three educational programs and a five-day a week residential program for approximately 285 students. The school includes three classroom buildings, one of which houses the administrative offices, library and auditorium. Three dormitories provide residential programs for students during the week. A gymnasium contains a fitness room, indoor track, and swimming pool. The 17 acres of well cared for grounds are surrounded by the buildings and various areas to play and socialize.
The current opportunity is for the Principal of the programs for students who are blind or visually impaired approximately 150 students) and students with behavioral disabilities (approximately 10 students). The program for students who are blind or have visual impairments provides high quality educational experiences that assist the students in being independent. From adaptive physical education, to technology labs, and through Regents classes and New York State examinations, students have opportunities that help them face the challenges of the global world. In addition to the core academic classes, students receive instruction in art, music, and daily living and social skills. Students also participate in career and vocational classes to develop skills necessary for college or employment. The goal of the program for students with behavioral disabilities is to develop appropriate coping strategies while working on learning deficits.

Qualifications:
As part of its regular review processes, the Executive Director worked with staff to update the job description and determined that the ideal candidate will be:

  • A well-respected special educator with experience teaching the blind and visually impaired who possesses knowledge of students with emotional disabilities and who, preferably, has administrative experience at the departmental or building level.
  • A proven instructional leader who will maintain a safe and healthy school environment that is conducive to learning and is focused on growing the rigorous and appropriate curriculum in place for all students at all grade levels.
  • An educator who is familiar with the administration of state and federal regulations related to students with disabilities and who will assure that activities required for student evaluations, annual reviews, triennial re-evaluations and Individualized Education Plan implementation occurs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • A leader of teachers who will ensure the appropriate level of well-qualified and trained staff by effecting systems for hiring, orienting, training, supervising and evaluating all personnel, and then will provide individual and school wide professional development opportunities, as necessary.
  • A visionary leader and superior collaborator with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills who will not only develop and implement annual staff and program improvement goals supported by strategic implementation strategies, but also will work with parents and partner agencies to improve opportunities for all students.
