Position Description:
The Victor Central School District, located in the northwest part of Ontario County, just southeast of the City of Rochester in New York State, is seeking an outstanding educational leader to assume the role of Superintendent of Schools. After thirty-seven years of service to the District, the last ten as Superintendent, Dr. Dawn Santiago-Marullo has announced her retirement, effective July 17, 2019. We are writing to bring this leadership opportunity to your attention for your own interest, or for the interest of others you feel are excellent candidates for the position. The District includes approximately 23,000 residents with a student enrollment in 2018-19 of 4,394. More than 750 faculty, support staff and administrators make up the team of dedicated employees. Each stands behind a school community that prides itself on state of the art facilities that include wireless internet campus-wide, a collegiate level aquatics center, and a carefully engineered performing arts center, as just a few examples. The 2019-2020 approved budget of $73,700,000 supports a beautiful 180 acre campus where all five schools are located. The Early Childhood School (Pre-K-1), the Primary School (2-3), the Intermediate School (4-6), the Junior High School (7-8), and the Senior High School (9-12), are within walking distance of one another, creating a unique sense of community. While all schools provide the highest quality standard curricula, they also include a wide variety of other rigorous and rewarding programs such as a variety of enrichment classes, Suzuki violin lessons, Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programming and Project Lead the Way pre-engineering classes.

Qualifications:
The Board has determined that the ideal candidate will be:

  • A successful educator and proven decision-maker, with classroom teaching and building administrative experiences, who has demonstrated the ability to listen carefully, think thoughtfully, and communicate respectfully with all constituencies.
  • A proven team builder with a demonstrated record of trust and collaboration who will provide clear and consistent leadership for and will develop strong relationships with the Board of Education, the staff, and the multiple constituencies within the larger Victor community.
  • A visionary leader, who will learn the District and its communities and then facilitate a strategic planning process among the stakeholders which will help establish focus and priorities for the work of the staff.
  • A proven instructional leader who will analyze the current instructional program, with an emphasis on special education and pupil services offerings, and then embrace cultural as well as socio-economic diversity, working with a supportive and well-respected staff in order to build on the strong academic reputation of the District.
  • A financially astute educator, with experience developing and implementing capital projects, who is politically savvy and will advocate for increased funding at the state and federal levels, as well for appropriate spending and the related increase in property taxes at the local level, in order to better support the current mission of the District, “To Teach, To Learn, To Support, To Improve, To Achieve”.
  • An educator of the utmost integrity who will lead in an atmosphere of mutual respect, collaborative decision-making, and accountability while establishing a balance among competing interests.

Candidates must possess or be eligible for New York State certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL).

Position Description:
Overview: The Central New York School Boards Association, a multi-faceted membership association that incorporates approximately 50 school districts and 4 BOCES, is seeking a self- motivated, energetic individual to become the next Executive Director. With members spread over 8 counties within Central New York and serving 350 school board members, candidates for the position should possess a firm grasp of the principles of leadership and the public education environment in New York State.

Qualifications:
Reporting structure: The Executive Director reports to a 15 member Board. The Association has in addition to the Executive Director role, an Executive Assistant and two other part-time employees. Tasks and responsibilities: The Executive Director is the Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer of the Central New York School Boards Association, Inc. and is responsible for the general administration of all instructional, business and/or other operations of the Association, and for advising and making recommendations to the Board of Directors with respect to such activities. This position is responsible for developing and conducting programs such as training for board members along with various workshops throughout the year. This position will be actively engaged in legislative and public policy issues. Ability and willingness to develop, build and maintain relationships with all 50 school Boards and it’s members. The Association also operates, administers and manages the Statewide School Finance Consortium. The Executive Director oversees the Association’s current annual budget of $625,000. Qualifications and skills: A Bachelor’s degree is required. Membership association experience is preferred along with a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area. Self-directed, highly professional and collaborative. Strong verbal and written skills. Excellent presentation and public speaking skills. CNYSBA offers a competitive salary package starting at $100,000. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and includes New York State Retirement benefits.
