Position Description:
The East Moriches UFSD (“EMO”), is located in the southeastern portion of Long Island, New York, in the Town of Brookhaven. The EMO community has a population of approximately 5,787 residents. The East Moriches elementary school was honored to have been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2014, exemplifying the high standards of excellence required here at EMO. The community is considered a mid-point between New York City and Montauk Point and is ideally close to Brookhaven National Labs and many recreational destinations such as Fire Island National Seashore and Cupsogue Beach County Park to name a few. EMO is also in close proximity to many outstanding colleges and universities including State University of New York at Stony Brook, St. Joseph’s College, Hofstra University, and Adelphi University. EMO is a very close knit community with a student population of approximately 700 students from grades K through 8. EMO has the highest expectations for its elementary and middle school programs. Children are provided a well-structured and caring learning environment consistent with the community's goal of high quality, creative and challenging instruction. The EMO school district is known for its rigorous academic program, as well as, numerous extracurricular opportunities. The Athletic Director oversees 13 sports teams, including a football team that is only four years old. EMO is quite unique in that students continue their secondary education at the neighboring school districts choosing between Center Moriches, Eastport/South Manor, or Westhampton Beach.

Qualifications:
The East Moriches UFSD is seeking an experienced educational leader with the following qualifications:

  • Possession of certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA)
  • A strong background in School Business
  • Successful experience as a Teacher, Building Principal, Central Office Administrator and/or Superintendent of Schools
  • A successful record of being a team player with the board, staff, and community
  • High moral and ethical behavior
  • The ability to anticipate and plan for changing conditions affecting public education
  • A desire to be highly visible in the schools and community
  • A strong background with instructional programming and a belief that change is driven by research and data
  • A demonstrated record of a collaborative approach to decision-making and problem solving
  • A leadership style built upon integrity, trust, enthusiasm, compassion and attention to detail
  • The experience to develop long range plans
  • A record of being approachable and accessible with a good sense of humor
  • Ability as an outstanding communicator with an open and honest style
  • A track record of working effectively with all employee groups
  • A child-centered approach to education; understanding the needs of students with varied academic ability, as well as differing socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
  • While residency in the District is not required, high visibility in the community is an expectation.

Compensation

A three-year contract will be offered with the starting salary commensurate with experience. An attractive benefits package will be added. The Skaneateles Central School District is located in Onondaga County, New York, approximately twenty-five (25) miles southwest of the City of Syracuse. The district serves six townships: Skaneateles, Marcellus, Niles, Owasco, Sennett and Spafford. Skaneateles Central School District has been recognized nationally and statewide for excellence and its students distinguish themselves in academics, the arts, athletics and community service. The 1,362-student district is comprised of the following four school buildings: Belle H. Waterman Elementary School serves students from grades Kindergarten through second grade. State Street Intermediate School serves third grade through fifth grade students. Skaneateles Middle School, which is adjacent to the high school, serves grades sixth through eighth, and Skaneateles High School serves students ninth grade through 12th grade. Skaneateles High School offers more than 130 different courses, offering students a variety of opportunities necessary to succeed in the 21st century.

The Board of Education is seeking an outstanding educational leader to fill the position of Superintendent of Schools. The successful candidate will be an experienced educational leader.   • Serving as a resource for school districts on current issues and legislative actions.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate degree from a nationally accredited law school AND five years of progressively responsible experience with complex legal issues, preferably in education law, civil service and labor / employment law, including two years of leadership and/or management experience with a proven record of results. Must be admitted to the Bar to practice law in New York State.

Salary Range:

After thirty-seven years of service to the District, the last ten as Superintendent, Dr. Dawn Santiago-Marullo has announced her retirement, effective July 17, 2019. We are writing to bring this leadership opportunity to your attention for your own interest, or for the interest of others you feel are excellent candidates for the position. The District includes approximately 23,000 residents with a student enrollment in 2018-19 of 4,394. More than 750 faculty, support staff and administrators make up the team of dedicated employees.
