Position Description:
Brewster Central School District believes that the continuous evolution of professional practice for the benefit of students occurs most effectively through the Professional Learning Community model. Brewster Central School seeks a Director of Facilities to join our community. Administrative Position; 12 Months; Salary per contract; Reports to Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations; Effective date September 30, 2019. The Director of Facilities is responsible for providing administrative direction to the buildings and grounds department. The work is performed according to established policies and procedures and in accordance with applicable state, local, and federal laws, rules and regulations which apply to school district facility operations and maintenance. The incumbent will spend time at various work sites ensuring that work is being performed and completed in an efficient manner. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate supervisors. Does related work as required.

Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:

  • Exercises administrative direction and supervision over the operations and personnel involved in the buildings and grounds department of the school district;
  • Develops policies, activity schedules, and procedural narratives to ensure the preventive maintenance program is carried out to ensure buildings, grounds and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean and acceptable operating condition;
  • Directs, assigns, trains and evaluates the work of subordinate supervisors and personnel;
  • Discusses capital projects, maintenance, repair and operational needs with school administrator(s);
  • Works with construction managers, architects and/or engineers to develop, implement and complete capital improvement projects and other long-term plans;
  • Ensures that preventive maintenance is performed and meets regularly with subordinates to discuss repairs on equipment, including plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems;
  • Inspects painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and other mechanical maintenance and construction work performed by private contractors, custodial, or maintenance employees to ensure work is in compliance with contract specifications, as well as, applicable codes and regulations;
  • Ensures that inspections are performed and tests of security systems, safety lighting, fire extinguishers, fire alarm system, and doors are completed to ensure proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and regulations;
  • Ensures that inspections and reports are completed for federal, state and local regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with codes, rules and regulations;
  • Responds to inquiries from employees, school district administrators and the public regarding school district buildings and grounds activities;
  • Attends Board of Education meetings and committee meetings, as required, to address issues specific to the buildings and grounds department;
  • Acts as the Chief Emergency Officer, responsible for overseeing the preparation of building-level and district-wide emergency response plans, including periodic updating and reporting to regulatory authorities.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules and regulations governing school buildings and grounds administration;
  • Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, procedures and security in the workplace and public buildings;
  • Good knowledge of budgeting principles, practices and procedures;
  • Working knowledge of buildings and grounds maintenance and repair practices and procedures;
  • Working knowledge of safety precautions and practices associated with buildings and grounds maintenance and repair work;
  • Ability to plan, direct and supervise a program of buildings and grounds maintenance;
  • Ability to inspect the work of building tradespersons and contractors to ensure compliance with contract specifications, as well as, applicable codes and regulations;
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and follow instructions, plans, diagrams, specifications and blueprints;
  • Ability to prepare budgets, operating reports and a variety of other reports relative to program activities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively to the Board of Education, committees, staff members, and the general public both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • New York School Administrative Certification: SDBL
  • Ability to communicate verbal and written ideas clearly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
  • Five years of experience

Position Title:
Superintendent of Schools

Position Description:
The Elmira Heights Central School District Board of Education is seeking an outstanding educational leader to fill the position of Superintendent of Schools. Approximately 1,140 pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade students are served in the district's two school buildings by 174 dedicated staff members (94 instructional). Staff includes a full-time dean of students and school counselors in each building. Thomas A. Edison High School had a 75 percent Regents diploma graduation rate in the 2017-18 school year. Advanced courses in ELA, biology, statistics, calculus, accounting and business professionalism are offered. Programming at Cohen Middle School focuses on career exploration. A daily activity period is designed for student participation in self-selected interest courses. Many students participate in APEX afterschool programming and school-run summer school opportunities. Cohen Elementary School offers full-day Universal Pre-K for four-year-old students. Reading teachers, nine teaching assistants, a technology teacher, a math support specialist, a full-time dean and a school counselor provide support for our district’s elementary students. School-run summer school opportunities are offered for elementary-aged children in the district. Our teacher mentorship program provides support for new instructional staff. Our district has a long-standing partnership with GST BOCES. Among the services we participate in are instructional support and computer services.
