8:30 - 9:45 a.m.	Practical Leadership: Leading and Building an Effective Governance Team Leading your governance team can be one of your biggest challenges. Participate in the discussion and realize how you can be an effective board officer given the power of your unique role and responsibilities. Learn how to build your board as a unified productive team with board operations that work and hear how one board effectively uses a board operations manual. 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.	Keynote: Improving Schools from Concept to Reality Explore best practices used by the nation’s most rapidly improving school boards which were identified as part of a multi-year study conducted by the International Center for Leadership in Education and the Council of Chief State School Officers. These best practices have led to the creation of a culture of high expectations, a shared vision, organizational structures aligned to the district vision, and increased leadership capacity. Develop an action plan to take back to your school board. 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.	Improving Schools and Learning – Field Applications Hear about the newest innovations and how schools have applied them to impact student achievement. Understand what school leaders do to collaborate and work together with their boards to implement real changes and make a difference in their schools. 1:15 - 3:00 p.m.	Staying Purposeful, Meaningful & Relevant: The Lens on Accountability and Effectiveness Examine the shift in education to a data-driven culture where district performance is now being evaluated through the lens of student achievement. Improve your governance team’s effective- ness and apply best practices to the superintendent performance evaluation process. Hear what similarities we can draw between principal and teacher evaluations as we explore what is good evidence, and what effective feedback really is.
