The New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) has named David K. Albert as director of communications and research.
Albert oversees a NYSSBA department that provides information to school board members across the state, as well as to legislators and the media.
Albert brings 20 years of experience in communications and public policy. From 1996 to 2000, he was coordinator of communications for the Albany school district, where he was responsible for informing the public on strategic initiatives of the board of education, including budget development, long-range facilities planning, student achievement and school security.
Prior to that he worked in the New York State Assembly, first as a special assistant on the Ways and Means Committee and later as legislative associate for the Education Committee. During that time, he helped develop several education reform and school district accountability measures.
Since 2000, Albert has served as director of communications at Albany Molecular Research, Inc. (AMRI), a biotechnology company based in the Capital Region. In this position, he oversees the company’s public and media relations, advertising, publications and interactive media. At AMRI, he has played a key role in promoting the company’s products and services, communicating with investors and serving as spokesperson with the media.
“We are delighted to welcome David to our leadership team,” said Timothy G. Kremer, NYSSBA’s executive director. “He brings a strong background in communications along with proven leadership skills and hands-on experience with school boards, school district operations and education policy.”
Albert earned a master of science in communication and rhetoric from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a master of arts in English from the University at Albany and a bachelor of arts in English from Siena College.
Albert attended NYSSBA’s Annual Convention in New York City and officially began work at NYSSBA on Nov. 1.
