The New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) has named longtime finance and operations manager Robert S. Schneider of Gansevoort, Saratoga County, as the association’s next executive director, effective January 1, 2020. He will succeed Timothy G. Kremer, who will retire at the end of this year after 21 years leading NYSSBA.
Schneider brings great depth of experience to his new position, with more than 25 years in association management. He has served as associate executive director and chief operating officer at NYSSBA since 2014 and previously was director of finance for 15 years. Prior to joining NYSSBA, he worked for the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association for seven years, serving as vice president, director of administration and finance, and controller.
"Bob has distinguished himself in many ways throughout his years of service to NYSSBA," said William L. Miller of West Winfield, president of the Board of Directors. "His astute and principled management of NYSSBA’s financial operations has enabled our organization to grow in outreach and service to our local school boards, while also expanding a crucial foundation for building financial stability. Moreover, Bob’s ability to connect genuinely and personally with our members is another incalculable asset to NYSSBA."
Schneider graduated from Siena College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also has earned credentials as a certified public accountant, a New York State property and casualty insurance broker and a certified association executive.
In addition, he is treasurer and a member of the executive committee of Junior Achievement of Northeastern New York and a volunteer classroom instructor for the organization. He served as past chair of the Empire State Society of Association Executives.
"I am excited to take on this new role and help NYSSBA move forward from the strong position that has been established through the leadership of Tim Kremer and our Board of Directors," Schneider said. "NYSSBA will continue its work to support all of our school board members as they work toward our shared goal of seeing all of our students achieve and succeed."
"Bob Schneider and I have worked side-by-side for 20 years. He knows our issues, our organization, our staff and our members. The board of directors sees in Bob what I have seen for years. They have made an excellent choice in selecting Bob as NYSSBA’s next executive director," said current NYSSBA Executive Director Timothy Kremer. "I pledge to do everything possible between now and the end of the year to assist Bob in preparing for this extraordinary leadership opportunity. NYSSBA will be in good hands, and Bob will make us all proud."
NYSSBA serves more than 675 local school boards and regional BOCES with some 5,200 individual board members throughout the state. The organization provides information, training and advocacy to promote excellence in school board service and public education.
