Caroline joined the NYSSBA staff as Governmental Relations Representative in October 2017.

Caroline began her career in education as an English teacher to speakers of languages other than English. She taught in Honduras, Turkey, and New Paltz, New York working for the Ulster County BOCES. Prior to joining NYSSBA, Caroline worked as an Excelsior Service Fellow on the education policy team in the NYS Governor’s Executive Chamber. There, she helped manage the Governor’s Common Core Task Force and Heroin and Opioid Task Force, coordinated the Empire State Excellence in Teaching Program, and brought forth education proposals to support needy students and effective instructors.

As federal advocacy liaison, Caroline sets the agenda and prepares materials for all of NYSSBA’s Congressional meetings. Caroline also represents the Association on several statewide coalitions and has expanded NYSSBA’s external partnerships.

Caroline highly values cultural inclusivity and understanding. In addition to teaching in Honduras and Turkey, she also served as a consultant in Mexico and community facilitator in Nicaragua. Caroline speaks Spanish and Turkish fluently and enjoys studying other languages.

Caroline graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Law; and received her Master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in Economic and Political Development.
