Matt DeLaus was promoted to Governmental Relations Counsel in January 2025. He first joined NYSSBA as a Governmental Relations Graduate Intern in January 2022 and was promoted to Governmental Relations Representative in January 2023.

Prior to enrolling in his dual J.D./M.P.A. program (at Albany Law School and Rockefeller College at the University at Albany, respectively), and after earning his undergraduate degree from the College of Saint Rose, Matt was highly involved in local advocacy and activism in Rochester. While there, he served a year as an AmeriCorps at Legal Assistance of Western New York, and worked at FoodLink, the regional food bank.

During his graduate studies, Matt was the Executive Editor for the 15th Volume of the Government Law Review. He also interned at the school's Government Law Center, where he researched and provided support on topics affecting state and local governments. Before coming to NYSSBA, Matt completed a legal internship at the Capital Region BOCES, where he worked mostly on Education Law § 2-d compliance. While at NYSSBA, he completed his graduate studies and was admitted to the New York State Bar.
